Journal matcher inputs
When you use the Journal Finder, the manuscript title, abstract, manuscript type, and selected filters are sent over HTTPS to a ScholarRounds serverless function so the service can perform journal matching. ScholarRounds currently sends the title and part of the title-and-abstract query to OpenAlex for semantic literature matching. PubMed searches and identifiers may also be sent to NCBI services to verify publication metadata and create PubMed links.
The current matcher does not intentionally write manuscript title or abstract text to a ScholarRounds database. The browser may store the most recent manuscript form locally so journal detail pages and inquiry tools can reuse the information. Hosting, network, and third-party API providers may retain ordinary operational logs according to their own policies.
Manuscript upload and analyzer
If you choose to upload a manuscript, the selected file is sent over HTTPS to a ScholarRounds serverless function so text can be extracted and compared with the formatting rules encoded for the selected journal. The beta accepts small DOCX, PDF, TXT, and Markdown files. ScholarRounds does not intentionally save the uploaded manuscript file or extracted full text to a ScholarRounds database. The file is processed transiently for the requested extraction or analysis and the response returns manuscript metrics and formatting checks to your browser.
Uploaded files pass through ScholarRounds’ hosting infrastructure and may be subject to ordinary provider-level request handling or operational logging. Do not upload protected health information (PHI), direct patient identifiers, confidential peer-review material, or other regulated or restricted information. The beta is not represented as a HIPAA-compliant clinical data system.
Research tools
Some ScholarRounds tools operate entirely in the browser, while tools that require external literature, manuscript parsing, or data services may transmit the minimum information needed to perform the requested task. Tool-specific notices are shown where relevant.
Forms
If you submit the newsletter, sponsor, contact, or community-data forms on a hosted deployment, the hosting/form provider may process the information you enter. Do not include patient information, confidential peer-review text, or unpublished manuscript content in community-data forms.
Analytics
ScholarRounds uses PostHog for basic product analytics such as page views, page exits, and selected product events. Autocapture and session replay are disabled so ScholarRounds does not intentionally send manuscript text, abstracts, file contents, form-field contents, or typed research content to PostHog. An anonymous browser identifier may be stored in local storage to understand repeat use. Browser Do Not Track settings are respected.
Third-party research services
The Journal Finder may use third-party scholarly data services, currently including OpenAlex and NCBI/PubMed, to retrieve literature metadata and related publications. Information sent to those services is subject to their respective privacy and operational policies. ScholarRounds does not intentionally send uploaded manuscript files to those research APIs; journal matching uses the title and abstract entered or extracted into the form. The journal directory's "Search all PubMed-indexed journals" feature sends the text you type there to NCBI's NLM Catalog to look up journals; it does not send your manuscript title, abstract, or any uploaded file.
Advertising
Sponsored resources may link to third-party sites. Their privacy practices are governed by their own policies. ScholarRounds does not permit sponsors to alter journal rankings.
Local storage
The site uses browser local storage for saved journals, the most recent manuscript form, and an anonymous analytics identifier. Uploaded manuscript files themselves are not intentionally written to local storage by the analyzer.
Research and patient data
Do not enter or upload PHI, direct patient identifiers, confidential peer-review material, or other regulated or restricted data into ScholarRounds. De-identify case material before using the service.
